سنّ التكليف

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The pen is lifted from three: the sleeper until he wakes, the child until he reaches maturity, and the one who has lost his mind until he recovers" (Abu Dawud 4403, Tirmidhi 1423). Reaching maturity (bulugh) is the moment when prayer, fasting and the other duties become your own responsibility.

It happens at different ages for each person, through natural signs, and at the latest around fifteen lunar years according to many scholars. It is not a burden but a promotion: Allah trusts you.

Before, your parents guided you. From now on you also answer for yourself, and Allah is merciful: He asks no one beyond their ability (2:286).
