Ali, the cousin of the Prophet ﷺ, grew up in his house and was among the first young people to accept Islam. On the night of the Hijra he slept in the Prophet's bed to protect him, showing great courage. He married Fatima, the Prophet's daughter.

He was known for his knowledge, his bravery and his simple life. The Prophet ﷺ said of him: "Only a believer loves him, and only a hypocrite hates him" (Muslim 78). He is also one of the ten promised Paradise (Tirmidhi 3747).

Lesson: you can be brave and gentle, learned and humble at the same time.
