الوحدة: القرآن
Reading a verse in its context.
Surahs revealed before the Hijra are called Makki (from Makkah) and those after it Madani (from Madinah). Makki surahs are often short and powerful and focus on belief in Allah, the Last Day and good character. Madani surahs are often longer and speak about laws, community life and relations with others.
Many verses were revealed in answer to a particular event or question. Knowing this is called asbab an-nuzul (the reasons for revelation). It helps to understand why a verse was revealed, but the lesson of a verse is not limited to that event.
This is why we never take a single verse alone: we read it in its surah, its context and with the help of qualified teachers. If you have a question or a doubt, talk to a teacher or a parent you trust: asking is part of learning.
