الوحدة: الْقَدَرُ وَحَيَاةُ الْإِيمَانِ
We go back over the six pillars, what each one changes in everyday life, and a personal plan to make your faith grow.
Last lesson: we bring everything together, and move from knowledge to life.
The six pillars in one sentence each 1. Allah: He is the only Creator, the only One I worship, and He has the most beautiful names (112; 42:11). 2. The angels: servants of light who obey, and who record my deeds (66:6; 82:10-12). 3. The books: Allah guided humanity through His books; the Qur'an is the last, preserved (15:9). 4. The messengers: one message from Nuuḥ to Muhammad ﷺ, the seal of the prophets (16:36; 33:40). 5. The Last Day: the grave, the resurrection, the judgement, Paradise and Hell; every atom counts (99:7-8). 6. Destiny: Allah knows, writes, wills and creates; I choose, I do my part and I rely on Him.
What each pillar changes in my day • Allah: I speak to Him directly, I trust Him. • The angels: I take care of my words, even online. • The books: I keep a daily link with the Qur'an. • The messengers: I follow the Prophet ﷺ and send prayers upon him. • The Last Day: I do good without waiting, and I repent quickly. • Destiny: I work seriously, and I stay calm about the result.
Faith and deeds go together In Surah Al-'Aṣr, Allah says that all human beings are in loss, "except those who believe, do good deeds, urge one another to the truth and urge one another to patience" (meaning of verses 103:1-3). Listen to it in the recitation block. And verse 2:177 describes true goodness: believing in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book and the prophets, then giving, praying, keeping one's commitments and being patient.
My plan to make my faith grow Write it on a sheet of paper, or in your phone: • one habit to keep (for example, praying on time); • one habit to add (for example, a page of Qur'an or the morning dhikr); • one thing to cut down (for example, screen time in the evening); • one person to ask my questions to.
What next? The next course, "The Forty Hadith: a selection", begins with the hadiths that lay the foundations of the religion; you will find the hadith of Jibril there in full, with everything you now know.
Final challenge: explain the six pillars to someone younger (brother, sister, cousin) in your own words, with an example for each.
Understanding the lesson
Explanation The six pillars are not six separate chapters: they form a single view of the world. Allah creates and guides; He sends angels with books to messengers; these messengers announce a Day when everyone will give account; and everything unfolds according to His knowledge and wisdom. Removing one pillar brings the whole thing down (meaning of verse 4:136). Knowing the pillars is not enough: Surah Al-'Aṣr always links faith with good deeds, truth and patience. Faith that never shows in deeds stays fragile; deeds without faith lose their root. A simple plan, kept up over time, is better than a big burst of energy that fades: "The deed most beloved to Allah is the most regular, even if it is small" (Bukhari 6464, Muslim 783). Common misunderstandings: thinking faith is a school subject you "finish"; believing you must master everything before you start practising; comparing yourself with others instead of making your own progress.
Lessons to draw from it • Reread your plan every week and adjust it. • Pass on what you have learned: explaining is learning twice. • Keep a link with the mosque and with a teacher. • Ask Allah to keep you firm: faith is a gift we ask Him for.
Key points to remember • The six pillars form a whole (4:136). • Each pillar has a concrete effect on the day. • Faith + good deeds + truth + patience (103:1-3). • The small, regular deed is the most beloved to Allah (Bukhari 6464).
The main message The six pillars of faith are the root of a Muslim's life: we learn them in order to live them, a little every day, with Allah at the centre.
