Sacred Citation & SourceLife is a trust from Allah: "Do not kill yourselves" (4:29) and "Do not kill the soul that Allah has forbidden except by right" (17:33). The Prophet ﷺ warned against a man who, in pain from a wound, took his own life (Bukhari 3463). For this reason councils forbid active euthanasia, that is acting to end a patient's life, even at the patient's request. They distinguish this from not starting or from stopping treatment that doctors agree is useless and only prolongs suffering; many councils permit this, while insisting on food, water, comfort and dignity. Palliative care, which relieves pain and supports the family, is strongly encouraged. The believer facing illness is taught patience and hope: "How wonderful is the affair of the believer; all of it is good for him" (Muslim 2999). Visiting the sick is a right of the sick person (Bukhari 1240, Muslim 2162). This lesson explains how scholars and councils reason; it is not a personal fatwa. For your own situation, ask a qualified scholar and your doctor.
