نص قرآني / حديث شريفAl-Fatiha, the Opening, is recited in every rak'a of the prayer. It has seven verses in the Madinah mushaf, and the first is "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" (1:1). Scholars differ on whether the basmala is a verse of every surah or a separator between them, and on how it is recited in the prayer, but all agree it is part of the Qur'an. Today the lesson is simple: begin with His name. The Prophet ﷺ taught the young Umar ibn Abi Salamah: "Say the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you" (Bukhari 5376, Muslim 2022). Starting an act with the basmala reminds us that our strength and permission come from Allah. Try it today: say it before eating, before working and before leaving home, and notice the difference it makes to your attention.
