نص قرآني / حديث شريف"The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" (1:3). In the same hadith, Allah says: "When the servant says: The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, Allah says: My servant has extolled Me" (Muslim 395). Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim both come from the root of mercy. Many scholars explain that Ar-Rahman is mercy that covers all creation, and Ar-Rahim mercy that is special to the believers, in a meaning widely given in the commentaries. The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah has one hundred parts of mercy and sent down one part among jinn, humans and animals; by it they are kind to each other, and He kept ninety-nine for the Day of Resurrection (Muslim 2752). So the verse gives hope. Practice today: show one concrete act of mercy to someone, to a creature, or to yourself, and remember that your kindness is only a small share.
