Ar-Razzaaq and the broad meaning of provision, Al-Kariim and Al-Wahhaab, Al-Ghaniyy, Al-Ḥafiiẓ, Al-Wakiil and trust (tawakkul) together with effort, Al-Qariib and Al-Mujiib; and seeking what is lawful without anxiety.
Ar-Razzaaq: the Provider • "It is Allah who is the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Firm" (meaning of 51:58, text below). "There is no creature on earth but its provision rests with Allah" (meaning of 11:6). • Provision (rizq) was written for each person before birth: the angel is sent to the embryo and writes its provision, its term, its deeds and whether it will be wretched or happy (Bukhari 3208, Muslim 2643). • Rizq is not only money: health, family, knowledge, faith, peace of heart and a sincere friend are also provision.
Al-Kariim, Al-Wahhaab, Al-Ghaniyy • Al-Kariim (the Generous): He gives without our deserving it, before we ask, and forgives with nobility. "O man, what has deceived you about your Lord, the Generous?" (meaning of 82:6). • Al-Wahhaab (the One who gives without measure): hiba is a free gift. Sulaymaan asked: "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom… You are Al-Wahhaab" (meaning of 38:35). • Al-Ghaniyy (the Self-Sufficient): He needs no one, and all need Him. "O people, you are the poor in need of Allah, and Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy" (meaning of 35:15). In a ḥadiith qudsi, Allah says: "O My servants, all of you are hungry except the one I feed; so ask Me to feed you, and I will feed you" (Muslim 2577).
Al-Ḥafiiẓ and Al-Wakiil: the Guardian, the One to whom one entrusts one's affairs • Al-Ḥafiiẓ (the Guardian): He guards the heavens and the earth (2:255), the deeds of the servants, and those who guard Him in their lives. Ya'quub said: "Allah is the best guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful" (meaning of 12:64). The Prophet ﷺ told Ibn 'Abbaas: "Be mindful of Allah, He will protect you" (At-Tirmidhi 2516). • Al-Wakiil (the Trustee, the One to whom one entrusts one's affairs): "Ḥasbunaa llaahu wa ni'ma l-wakiil" ("Allah is sufficient for us, and what an excellent trustee"); Ibraahiim said it when he was thrown into the fire, and Muhammad ﷺ when he was told that people had gathered against him (Bukhari 4563; 3:173).
Trust (at-tawakkul) and effort • "If you relied on Allah as He should be relied upon, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds: they go out in the morning with empty stomachs and come back in the evening full" (At-Tirmidhi 2344, graded ḥasan ṣaḥiiḥ by At-Tirmidhi). • The bird does not stay in its nest: it goes out. Tawakkul is not laziness. A man asked whether he should tie his camel or trust in Allah; he answered: "Tie it, and trust in Allah" (At-Tirmidhi 2517) [À VÉRIFIER : numéro et degré]. • "Whoever is mindful of Allah, He makes a way out for him and provides for him from where he does not expect. Whoever puts his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him" (meaning of 65:2-3, text below).
Al-Qariib and Al-Mujiib: He is near, He answers "When My servants ask you about Me, I am near: I answer the call of the caller when he calls on Me" (meaning of 2:186). Ṣaaliḥ said: "My Lord is near (qariib), He answers (mujiib)" (meaning of 11:61). The answer may be given at once, delayed, or replaced by something far better (lesson 9).
Seeking what is lawful without anxiety Since provision is written, one seeks it through lawful means, without cheating and without wearing oneself out at the expense of one's prayer and family. The believer works seriously, then he is at peace: what is meant for him will not escape him.
Understanding the lesson
Explanation Worry about the future, work, rent and children is one of the greatest sources of anxiety today. The names in this lesson answer it directly: Ar-Razzaaq has written your provision, Al-Kariim gives beyond what is deserved, Al-Ghaniyy needs nothing and all need Him. But Islam does not ask us to wait with folded arms. The image of the bird is perfect: it goes out every morning without knowing where it will find its food, and it comes back full. The effort is its own; the result is from Allah. Al-Ḥafiiẓ and Al-Wakiil bring security: one entrusts one's children, health and plans to the best of guardians. "Ḥasbunaa llaah" is not a formula of resignation; it is what Ibraahiim said before the fire and the Prophet ﷺ before an army. Finally Al-Qariib and Al-Mujiib remind us that no intermediary is needed in order to ask: He is near and He answers.
Lessons to draw from it • Do your part seriously (studying, working, searching), then rely on Allah. • Never seek your provision in what is unlawful out of fear of lacking. • Thank Allah for the forms of rizq that are not money: health, family, faith. • Say "Ḥasbunaa llaahu wa ni'ma l-wakiil" in the face of a threat or a fear. • Ask Allah directly, at any time: He is near.
Key points to remember • Ar-Razzaaq: provision is written before birth (Bukhari 3208, Muslim 2643; 51:58). • "All of you are hungry except the one I feed" (Muslim 2577): Al-Ghaniyy. • The bird that goes out with an empty stomach (At-Tirmidhi 2344): trust together with effort. • "Ḥasbunaa llaahu wa ni'ma l-wakiil" (3:173; Bukhari 4563). • "I am near: I answer the call of the caller when he calls on Me" (2:186).
The main message Your provision is in the hands of Ar-Razzaaq: seek it seriously through lawful means, entrust your affairs to Al-Wakiil, and ask the One who is near and who answers.

Meaning: 51:56-58: "I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me. I want no provision from them, and I do not want them to feed Me. It is Allah who is the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Firm." 65:2-3 (passage): "… Whoever is mindful of Allah, He makes a way out for him, and provides for him from where he does not expect. Whoever puts his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him. Allah accomplishes what He wills, and He has set a measure for everything." The beginning of 65:2 deals with divorce: the quoted passage is to be delimited with the imam [À VÉRIFIER : délimitation].
