Context, language and qualified teachers.
Reading a verse or a hadith without the right tools can lead to wrong conclusions. To understand correctly, scholars use several things: the Arabic language and its meanings, the context of the text, other verses and hadiths on the same subject, the understanding of the Companions, and the agreement of qualified scholars.
A sentence taken alone can say the opposite of the whole message. For example, one verse about fighting in a specific war situation cannot be applied to any situation. This is why Allah says: "Ask the people of knowledge if you do not know" (16:43).
Study with qualified teachers, stay humble, and be suspicious of anyone who uses a verse to justify hatred or violence against innocent people. Islam forbids that clearly. If you have a question or a doubt, talk to a teacher or a parent you trust: asking is part of learning.
