Unit: Revelation, the Last Day and the decree
The final message.
Muslims believe in all the books that Allah revealed: the Tawrat (Torah) to Musa, the Zabur (Psalms) to Dawud, the Injil (Gospel) to Isa, the scrolls of Ibrahim, and the Qur'an to Muhammad ﷺ (2:285, 4:136). The Qur'an is the final book, a confirmation and a guardian over what came before (5:48), and it is protected by Allah (15:9).
In the same way Muslims believe in all the messengers and make no distinction between them in belief (2:285). Muhammad ﷺ is the last of them: "Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets" (33:40). After him there is no new revelation.
What follows from these beliefs: respect for the earlier prophets, who are all in the Qur'an; seeing Islam as the same message of one God renewed; and following the final guidance in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. The mainstream Sunni schools of creed (Athari, Ash'ari, Maturidi) agree on these foundations and differ on some points of method and detail, which this lesson signals without settling.
